Product Specs

Do I have to use one of your templates for my magnets?

No. Our pre-designed templates are just one option for you to use when you design your own magnets. If you prefer not to use one of our templates you have multiple other options. You can design and make your own custom magnet by uploading your own file, use a blank template on our design tool or contact us for free design services. Any of these options will allow you make your own personalized magnet no matter what the need may be – personal or commercial use.

Do my magnets have to be round or rectangle? Do you offer magnets in any shape or size?

Our custom magnets – for vehicles or otherwise – can literally be cut to any shape and size. To do this you’ll need to select the Custom or Custom with Border shape option when designing and ordering your magnet. The Custom shape option (previously known, or sometimes referred to, as Contour Cut) allows you to either upload a custom shape to our design tool or have us create a custom shape for your sign based off of your design. The Custom with Border shape option (previously known, or sometimes referred to, as as Halo Cut) is similar to the Custom shape option but will leave a small border around the edge of your design. Notwithstanding the ability to cut to shape, magnets that are not intricate in their design are more likely to adhere better to your vehicle due to the fact that there is less of a chance of wind getting underneath the magnetic surface while driving. You can also choose to keep the shape of your magnet as a square/rectangle or have it cut with rounded corners or as a circle/oval.

Does your magnet come with a laminate covering?

No, our magnets aren’t covered with a laminate. Instead we print with a UV ink that is weather, fade and abrasion resistant. If you’d still like a laminate covering contact us for a custom quote.

Are your magnets reflective? If not, do you offer reflective magnets?

Our magnets are not reflective. We do not offer reflective magnets at this time.

Do your magnets have a warranty?

All of our signs come with a 100% satisfaction guarantee. The lifespan with proper care and maintenance of the magnets is 3-5 years.

Will my magnet fade over time? What about in poor weather or climates?

Due to the fade and abrasion resistant UV ink used in our printing process your magnet and its design should remain vibrant for the entirety of the product lifespan assuming it is cared for properly. This is true even when magnets are constantly exposed to the elements.

What are the maximum dimensions you can make for a magnet?

While most car magnets (depending on model and make) are somewhere between 10”-12” wide by 20”- 24” for cars and 18”x24” and up for larger delivery and work vans, we have the capability to make magnets up to 24”x600”.

Usage

Are magnets bad for my car? Do they damage the surface or paint on my car, truck or van?

Our custom car magnets will not do any damage to your car or truck. However, care should be taken to ensure that no dirt or dust is between the magnet and your car. Otherwise, over time, the granules of sand can eventually damage your paint. To prevent this, be sure to always clean your vehicle and the back of the magnet prior to placement. It is also important to note that over long periods of time, the paint of your vehicle may fade from the environment except where the magnets are protecting it.

Will my magnet work on an aluminum surface?

No. Aluminum is not magnetic and therefore if your car door, bumper or other parts of your car are made from aluminum the magnet will not adhere to the surface. Please confirm the intended surface is magnetic (known as a “ferrous metal”) before purchasing your custom magnet.

What temperature range do your magnets work in?

It is also worth noting that magnets are intended for use on surfaces that are between -15 F and 160 F. Temperatures that are too cold can cause the magnet to become brittle and not adhere properly. Surface temperatures that exceed 160 F can result in the magnet baking onto the surface of the vehicle which can result in paint damage.

Do car magnets stick to all types of vehicles?

We recommend checking the surface of your car to determine if it allows a magnetic adhesion. In some cases where the magnet doesn’t stick, the surface may not be magnetic and could be a plastic or carbon fiber material (bumpers are typically a non-magnetic material).

Are the magnets water and weather proof? What about car washes?

The magnets are designed to be used in any climate and generally have a lifespan of 3-5 years with proper care and maintenance. There are generally two exceptions to this lifespan.

The first is that the magnets should be removed during extreme weather. Torrential downpours, high winds, etc. can pull the magnet off the car and even potentially ruin the magnetic properties of the sign. As noted above, cut to shape magnets can also be less durable when adhered to your vehicle.

The other exception is the use of power washers and car washes. For the same reason as heavy rain and the powerful brushes of a car wash, magnets should be removed before washing your vehicle.

Is there a limit on how many times I can remove and put them on my vehicle?

No. The magnets are designed to be able to be used for vehicles that often play the role of business vehicle during the day and personal vehicles during the evening. Notwithstanding, the magnets and surface where applied should be washed and dried before applying and on a regular basis to ensure your magnet lasts as long as possible and that your vehicle’s paint is not damaged from small grains of dust or dirt.

What if I want a more permanent solution?

For a semi-permanent solution check out our car decals which use an adhesive instead of a magnetic backing. These can still be easily removed if necessary but only on a one-time basis unlike the magnets.

Can your magnets be used for surfaces other than vehicles?

Yes, any metallic surface within your home or business will work perfectly with our magnets. Refrigerators, tool storage units in garage settings, kitchen areas in restaurants, machinery and doors in manufacturing settings and much more will work just fine with our magnets. Surfaces that do not work with our magnets include fiberglass, acrylic, and other similar hard plastic surfaces.

Is there any place I should avoid putting my magnet on my vehicle?

Other than non-metallic surfaces, rusted or already damaged areas (i.e. chipped or peeling paint) should be avoided. Placing a magnet in such spots can reduce the magnetic ability, further erode the paint surface or both.

Further, magnets should only be placed on flat, smooth surfaces and not on top of major creases, trim or other non-flat surfaces including edges, curves, and rounded surfaces. Doing so will cause wind to get under the magnet and potentially pull the magnet off the car while your vehicle is in motion.

Can I place your car magnets on my bumper?

Most vehicle bumpers now are not made of metal so placing a magnet there would not work. We would instead recommend our opaque car decals in that instance. If, however, you do have a metal bumper and it is flat enough to place a magnet, our car magnets should work great.

Can I buy blank magnets?

Yes, you can order them through the normal ordering process. Simply order the magnet with no design. It would be helpful for our quality assurance team to leave a comment at checkout letting us know your sign is intentionally blank.

Are vehicle magnets effective for advertising?

While we can’t guarantee results for your business, studies have shown that auto magnets are an effective advertising option for entrepreneurs and small businesses. Read more about the effectiveness of car magnet advertising.

Installation & Care

Before applying my magnet is there anything I need to do?

Yes. Please be sure to wash both the magnet itself and the surface on which it will be applied to. In both cases a very mild detergent and water will work. Use only a drop or two of the mild detergent and make sure that you allow both the magnet and the surface to air dry before applying the magnet. Do not at any point submerge the magnet in water regardless of how long it is submerged. Submerging the magnet in water, even for just a few seconds, may ruin the magnetic properties of your sign.

My magnets came rolled up - what should I do?

We recommend that you lay your magnet flat in a warm, dry place for at least 24 hours before applying it. This will help to recalibrate its memory and ensure the strongest magnetic bond possible.

How should I store my magnets?

Magnets should be stored in cool, flat locations out of direct sunlight. Avoid storing your magnets in soft, uneven places that are overly hot or in direct sunlight. Also, avoid storing your magnets with the magnetic side touching the magnetic side of another sign. Storing your magnet in these locations or this way may degrade your magnet over time.
