What is cut vinyl or vinyl lettering? Is it made up of individual letters or one continuous piece?

Vinyl lettering (or cut vinyl) is cut from a colored sheet of self-adhesive 2-mil vinyl and can be used for lettering, numbering, or graphics. It is made up of individual letters that are cut to exact shape and then pre-spaced and placed onto transfer masking tape allowing your vehicle lettering will be applied in one seamless process with exact accuracy.

Will all of my individual letters/design elements be placed on the same sheet of transfer tape?

In most cases, the individual letters contained within your vehicle lettering will be appropriately spaced and placed on a single sheet of transfer tape, making installation quick and simple. However, if your vehicle lettering exceeds 48″ (for colors black and white) or 24″ (for all other colors) in both width and height, your lettering will be split and placed onto two sheets of transfer tape. You will also receive your vehicle lettering in multiple sheets if you are using three or more different colors. In this case, each separate color will be grouped together on its own sheet.

Is there any difference between vehicle, car, and truck lettering?

Vehicle lettering, car lettering, and truck lettering are all the same product. The exact same material and installation process is used whether you are using the lettering on your car, truck, van, or any other type of vehicle. The different terms are used to help show that this vinyl lettering can be used on different types of vehicles but are interchangeable otherwise.

Is car and truck lettering printed or cut?

Car and truck lettering is cut to shape from a sheet of solid-colored vinyl, which allows the lettering to have no background. This is why there is a limited number of colors to choose from with vinyl lettering. After cutting out the general shapes of the letters or object, manual weeding (or picking) is done by our production team to cut out any internal spaces. This is what allows vehicle lettering to be cut to exact shape. No printing is used. If you are interested in having your graphic printed onto vinyl with unlimited color options or gradients you can check out our vehicle decals.

What is weeding or picking?

Weeding (or picking) is the process in which the internal spaces of a letter, shape or object are cut out. For example, whenever a “D” or a “B” is a part of an order for vinyl lettering, the external shape of the letter is first cut from a sheet of vinyl with the internal spaces still intact. It is then through the process of weeding that the inside part of the “D” or “B” is cut out, giving it the shape of the actual letter. Without this process, letters would not be able to be cut to exact shape. Because of the intricate detail required with weeding, it is all done by hand and can become a very extensive process for complicated designs. This is why pricing is slightly affected by the complexity of the requested design.

How does vinyl car and truck lettering differ from your other vehicle decals?

The main difference between our vinyl car and truck lettering and our opaque, clear, and perforated vehicle decals is that the vinyl lettering requires no printing and uses different colors of vinyl material. Our vehicle decals all have the design printed directly onto a standard vinyl material. One other major difference is in the cutting options. Vinyl lettering is cut to exact shape (including internal spaces), whereas vehicle decals can only be cut to the general outline of the shape, maintaining a solid background.

Are car lettering and car decals the same thing?

In the general sense, car decals refer to any type of material with adhesive properties that has the intended purpose of being applied to the exterior of a car. So in that sense, car lettering is a type of car decal. However, in order to eliminate confusion we refer to vinyl that is cut from solid colored vinyl as car lettering and vinyl that is printed on as a car decal.

What material is your vehicle lettering made from?

Our vehicle lettering is made from durable 2-mil (50 micron) vinyl that is designed to last up to 8-10 years (depending on use and climate conditions). The vinyl is self-adhesive and comes in over 35 different colors.

What is the default color of the material used for your car and truck lettering?

There is no default color for car and truck lettering. Since the lettering is cut directly from a sheet of solid-colored vinyl, the color selected when creating your design is the same color of the vinyl material that is used. Having said that, most people choose white for the color of their vehicle lettering. In most cases a white color provides the most contrast and visibility when placed on the window of a car or truck, especially if the window is tinted.

How thick is the vinyl vehicle lettering?

The thickness of the vinyl material used is .002” (2-mil or 50 microns; about the thickness of half of a sheet of copy paper). This allows the lettering to not protrude from the surface of the vehicle yet still maintain its quality and durability.

Is your car and truck lettering visible in the dark? Do you offer alternative types of vinyl lettering like premium, reflective, or marine vinyl?

Our vehicle lettering is not visible in the dark. As for premium vinyl, our standard vinyl has exceptional quality and has a durability and lifespan similar to what other providers offer with their “premium” vinyl material. Currently we do not offer reflective or marine vinyl types. However, if you are interested in creating lettering out of one of these vinyl types please contact us to see what options you may have.

How big should my lettering be?

Your car and truck lettering is available in a wide range of sizes to fit whatever needs you may have. To determine what size your lettering should be, start by measuring the size of the surface where you would like to apply the lettering. Most users apply lettering to the rear window, back, or sides of their vehicle. Our standard size of 36” x 18” fits most rear windows well but because rear windows are unique in size and shape we highly recommend measuring before ordering your lettering. The general rule of thumb of 1” of height for 10’ of viewability is also a good guide for how big your lettering needs to be to be seen by others.

How is the height and width of my vinyl car and truck lettering measured?

The height of your vehicle lettering is measured from the highest point of the tallest letter to the lowest point of the lowest-hanging letter. For example, if you were ordering vinyl lettering that said “Signs” the height of your lettering would be measured from the top of the “S” to the bottom of the “g”. Likewise, the width of your lettering is measured from the beginning of the letter on the left-most end of the design to the end of the letter on the right-most end of the design. The total size of your lettering is determined by multiplying the height by the width of your full design.

What are the maximum and minimum dimensions for my vehicle lettering?

The minimum size your lettering must be is 1” x 1”. Due to our panelling technique, there is no definite maximum size for your vinyl lettering, allowing you to go as large as you like. This allows you to create some very large graphics that can be used on large vehicles, such as buses or semi trucks. Do keep in mind, however, that if both width and height exceed 24” then you will need to have either your width or height comprised of multiple sheets/panels of vinyl, creating a small seam in the design. If you wish to have no seams in your lettering then you must keep the dimensions below 24” (2 feet) in one direction (width or height) and 600” (50 feet) in the other direction. When ordering large dimensions we recommend either professional installation or help from several people to ensure proper installation. The minimum size your lettering must be is 1” x 1”. What is stroke width and why should I care?

Stroke width refers to the width of any portion of a letter or object. Letters or objects that have extremely narrow stroke widths may not be able to be used for vehicle lettering due to the difficulty in cutting, weeding, and installing them. If you are interested in using a font with narrow letters or a complex design please contact us before ordering to see if it is possible to make.

Do you offer vinyl car wraps?

We do not offer vinyl car wraps at this time.

Do you offer car and truck stripes or striping?

We do not have an official truck stripes or striping product. However, our vinyl lettering can go up to 600” (50 feet) long, making striping using vinyl lettering a possibility. If you choose to do this and order striping that is over 3’ long we strongly recommend professional installation or help from several others when installing.

How many fonts do you have for use? What can I do if I want to use a font that you do not have?

We offer over 70 different fonts on our site, allowing you to create lettering that ranges from fun to professional to creative. If you have a specific font in mind that you would like to use for your lettering but cannot find it on our site, you are able to upload a file of your desired font in our online design tool. The uploaded file must be in vector format and must be ai, eps, svg, or pdf. Feel free to contact our free design services if you need help uploading your desired font.

How many colors are available? Do you offer colors beyond what is provided on the site?

You can choose from 39 different colors for your car and truck lettering, including standard and specialty colors. Generally, we can only produce vinyl lettering from the colors we offer on our site. However, if you have a specific color in mind and would like to place a custom order feel free to contact us.

Can I order lettering that has multiple colors?

Yes, you can order vehicle lettering that incorporates any variety of the colors that we offer on our site. Each individual object that you create in our design tool (whether it is lettering or a graphic) will each have its own solid color, so if you want multiple colors be sure to create multiple objects in the design tool. Please note that if your design incorporates three or more separate colors, your lettering will be sent out in separate sheets for each color. You will then simply combine them together when installing your vehicle lettering. If you are uploading a file, please note that each file uploaded can only have one color applied. For example, if you are trying to create a business logo out of vinyl lettering that incorporates multiple colors you will need to break up the parts of the logo into multiple files (according to color) and upload each file separately into our design tool.

My design has several different color variations and I want to display it as is on my vehicle. What can I do?

If you have a design that uses many colors or if you are wanting exact colors from your design then we recommend using one of our vehicle decals. Our vehicle decals are printed instead of cut, allowing you to use an unlimited number of colors and color variations/effects.

Will the colors on your website match exactly what I want?

You are able to preview all of the colors we have available when using our online design tool. As long as your screen settings are standard, the color you see on screen should be very close to the color you receive with your vehicle lettering. Please note, however, that there may be differences in color due to the difference in computer monitors. If you would like, we are also more than happy to provide you with the official names of the colors we use. As for color matching, this is something that cannot be done with vinyl lettering (unless the color you want is the exact same as one of the colors of vinyl we offer) and is very difficult to achieve even with decals that use printed ink. Even though we do not offer exact color matching, our vehicle decals allow you to use an unlimited number of colors and combinations to help you achieve the look you are wanting.

Is the cost of my car and truck vinyl lettering affected by my color choice?

Whichever color your choose, the cost for your vehicle lettering will be the same. However, the cost is slightly increased by incorporating multiple colors into one lettering order. This is due to the additional technical work required to create such orders.

Can you do graphics or non-letter designs?

Yes. Simple graphic or non-letter designs can be created using our cut vinyl. We offer several graphics for you to choose from in our template library. You can also upload a custom image or graphic. Please note that each file you upload will only be able to be created in one solid color.

How do I make my business logo out of vinyl lettering?

If you would like to create your business logo out of our vinyl lettering, please upload a file of your logo into our online design tool. Make sure that the file is in vector format (ai, eps, svg, or pdf). If your logo has multiple colors you will need to upload it in multiple files (according to color). If you need help making your business logo out of vinyl lettering please take advantage of our free design services.

How do I upload my own custom design?

Once you have entered our online design tool, you will see an icon on the far left menu that says “Upload”. Click on that icon. Be sure to then read through the uploading requirements. We require all vinyl lettering uploads to be vector artwork and in the file format of ai, eps, svg, or pdf. You will then select the file from your computer or mobile phone and have it uploaded into our design tool. If you have a custom design that you would like to use but it is not vector artwork or the appropriate format, please fill out a request form on our free design services page to have your artwork be converted into an acceptable format. We will be sure to contact you within 24 hours from the time you submit your request.

What is a vector file?

A vector is a type of graphic that uses mathematical equations to produce an image made from lines and shapes that can be scaled to any size without the loss of quality or fidelity. Vectors are created in illustration software programs, such as Adobe Illustrator. Vector images are the ideal image type for vehicle lettering because they can be made with a transparent background and are able to be scaled to any size without losing quality or becoming “pixelated”.

Why won’t my uploaded file work?

If you are having difficulty uploading your desired file, it is most likely because it is either not vector artwork (not an ai, eps, svg, or pdf file), or is over 25MB in size. If you are having difficulty uploading your file please contact us or fill out our free design services request form.

Does my design impact pricing for my vinyl car and truck lettering?

Pricing is slightly influenced by the design of your vehicle lettering. The reason for this is because the more complex the design, the more weeding and manual cutting is required.

Do I have to use one of your templates for my vinyl lettering?

No. Our templates are provided to help you easily edit and create the design you are looking for, but they are not mandatory to use. If you do not want to use one of our templates then you are welcome to start from scratch and create a brand new design using our online design tool or upload something you have created before.

What is the estimated lifespan of vinyl lettering for cars and trucks?

The estimated lifespan for our vehicle lettering is 8-10 years, depending on use and climate conditions. Our vinyl lettering comes UV, weather, and water resistant, helping it withstand the elements of the outdoors. We recommend proper and regular care to ensure a long life for your lettering.

Will exposure to sun or the elements affect the vehicle lettering?

UV protectants within the vinyl material help your lettering maintain its vibrant color for as long as 5-10 years of exposure to the sun. This lettering is also able to withstand a temperature range from -40 degrees fahrenheit to 225 degrees fahrenheit, helping it maintain its quality during both the summer and winter months.

Will the lettering withstand frost/snow and freezing temperatures?

Our vinyl car and truck lettering is designed to withstand temperatures as low as -40F. Being waterproof, it will also withstand snow, ice and frost. One common issue users face with vehicle lettering is damaging the lettering when scraping frost off of the window. We recommend carefully scraping around the lettering when doing so, being sure not to scrape over it. You are also able to order your vehicle lettering with front-facing adhesive (called “Inside Glass” on our design tool), allowing you to place your lettering on the inside of your vehicle’s window. However, we typically do not recommend inside glass installations because the tinting and reflection of your windows can significantly decrease the visibility of your lettering.

Is there any toxicity from the adhesive portion of the car and truck lettering?

No. The material and adhesive used to create our vehicle lettering is free of toxins and is completely safe to use.

Does the vinyl lettering have a matte or glossy finish?

Your vehicle lettering will have a moderate gloss finish, allowing it to stand out when placed on the window, back, or side of your vehicle.

Do you offer custom vehicle lettering with a protective laminate?

No. Due to our vinyl lettering being cut directly from a sheet of durable 2-mil vinyl, a protective laminate is not needed to maintain the quality and color of the lettering. Protective laminates are mainly used on decals that are printed with ink.

Are there any laws regarding vinyl lettering for cars and trucks?

Laws pertaining to vinyl lettering, decals, and stickers on vehicles differ from state to state. However, the general consensus among states is that decals and stickers used on the windows of a vehicle must not obstruct the driver’s view in any way. Please keep this in mind when creating your custom vehicle lettering. Vehicles used for commercial purposes may have additional laws pertaining to identification and use.

What are USDOT numbers? Can I use vehicle lettering for USDOT numbering?

USDOT numbers are used to identify and register vehicles that are used for commercial purposes, including transporting passengers or hauling cargo in interstate commerce. USDOT numbers are required in over 30 states and must be applied to a vehicle after the vehicle has gone through the registration process. Our vehicle lettering may be used to create USDOT numbers, as long as they maintain a height of at least 2”.

Usage

What are the typical uses of vinyl lettering for cars and trucks?

Vehicle lettering is typically used for advertising and promotion, sharing popular messages and sayings, providing business information, displaying artistic designs, and applying USDOT lettering. It is designed for outdoor use on cars, trucks, jeeps, vans, buses, commercial vehicles, motorcycles, dirt bikes, UTVs, off-road vehicles, ATVs, tractors, lawn mowers, and any other type of vehicle.

Is this lettering reusable?

Car and truck lettering is intended for one-time use only. We recommend planning out the desired location of the lettering prior to application because removing or repositioning is virtually impossible after the initial install.

Can I apply this lettering on areas of my vehicle other than windows?

Yes. This can be applied on any area of your vehicle, including the sides, doors, rear, hood, trunk, and bumper.

Will it ruin or damage the paint on my car?

This lettering should not ruin or damage the paint on your vehicle where applied. The adhesive used is designed to be applied and removed easily and does not contain any harmful toxins. However, we do recommend caution if you are using a sharp object (such as a razor blade) for removal. We also recommend to avoid using strong cleaners or chemicals when attempting to remove any adhesive residue that may be left after removing the lettering from your vehicle.

Are there restrictions on types of paint I can apply it to? Can I apply it to new paint?

Our vehicle lettering is generally safe to use on your vehicle’s paint as long as it is installed and removed properly. However, do not apply lettering to wet or uncured paint, as it may damage the paint or affect the adhesive properties of the lettering. Materials that may not be suitable for lettering application include ones that are flexible, scratch resistant or anti-reflection.

Will my vehicle lettering work on tinted windows?

This lettering works great on tinted windows. Be sure to choose a color that contrasts with the color of the tinted window. For example, if your window or windshield has a dark tint, choose a light color (such as white) for your lettering. This allows for maximum visibility. We also recommend placing the lettering on the outside of the window as opposed to the inside. Placing vehicle lettering on the inside of a tinted window will make it difficult to be seen by others.

Can I place the lettering on the inside of a car window and have it be visible from outside?

Yes. You can select the option in our online design tool to have your vehicle lettering be cut in a way to where the adhesive is on the front of the design rather than the back. This allows you to place the lettering on the inside of a window yet still be visible from the outside. Placing your lettering on the inside of your window will help protect it from harsh elements, allowing it to last longer. It is also a great option if you regularly scrape frost, snow, or ice from your windows. However, we do not recommend this option on tinted or reflective windows. Doing so will make your lettering very difficult to see.

Will this lettering work on race cars, ATVs, UTVs, motorcycles, or dirt bikes?

Yes. Our car and truck lettering works on just about every type of vehicle, including vehicles used for off-road purposes. It is also suitable for use on boats, waverunners, jet skis, and yachts.

Can I use this on surfaces other than vehicles such as walls, windows, or glass?

Our vinyl car and truck lettering is made from the same material as our standard vinyl lettering, meaning that it can be used on a wide variety of smooth, non-porous surfaces. This includes walls, metal, painted drywall, plastic, glass, windows, and acrylic. This allows our lettering to be used with your vehicle, home, office, or anywhere else you would like. Avoid using vinyl lettering on areas that are rough or porous. This includes stucco, cinder blocks, brick, unpainted or unfinished wood, concrete, etc.

What is the level of opacity of the vehicle lettering?

Our custom vehicle lettering is opaque, meaning that it is not transparent and is generally unable to be seen through. However, a small amount of light may pass through when installed on windows. Generally speaking, the darker the color your lettering is the more opaque your lettering will be.

Can the lettering be used outside?

Our car and truck lettering is specifically designed for outdoor use and will last up to 8 years with no fading or cracking. This is due to the durable vinyl material used that is both UV resistant and waterproof. It is also designed to withstand any temperature between -40F to 225F, making it the perfect option for displaying your message or information on the outside of your vehicle.

Can the lettering be used in humid locations?

Your vinyl lettering will work well in humid locations and climates. The lifespan may be slightly affected in these conditions, but the lettering will still last several years with proper installation and care. When installing vehicle lettering in a humid environment, be sure to have the surface where the lettering will be applied be completely dry. Installing car and truck lettering on a wet surface may cause the lettering to not adhere to the surface properly.

Can I store my lettering for future use?

Before application you may store your lettering for a short period of time. This should be no longer than 1-2 months. If you wait too long the lettering may begin to lose its adhesive properties and will not install properly. We recommend installing your vinyl lettering as soon as possible once you receive it. Once you have applied your vehicle lettering it is not intended to be removed and stored for future use. Attempting to do this would render the lettering unusable for future or alternative uses.

Installation & Care

How do I install vinyl car and truck lettering?

The first thing you will want to do when installing your vehicle lettering is thoroughly clean and dry the surface of the area on your vehicle where you would like the lettering to be placed. Next, place a horizontal strip of masking tape on the top of the transfer tape on your lettering with half of the strip hanging off. Tape your vehicle lettering in place with the hanging portion of the masking tape to the desired location on your vehicle (creating a hinge) and make sure the lettering is not crooked. You can then start peeling away the backing from your vehicle lettering. Do this by holding the bottom edge of the lettering away from the surface and then peel the backing away, starting from one of the bottom corners and working towards the top. Next, use a squeegee and press down on the transfer tape from top to bottom and left to right, adhering the lettering to your vehicle’s surface. Apply carefully to avoid large creases or bubbles under the lettering. If bubbles form you can remove them by dragging your squeegee from the center of the lettering outward. You can then remove the premask from the lettering, starting at the top corner and working your way down to the bottom.

Is the lettering easy to install?

Our vinyl car and truck lettering comes pre-spaced and pre-masked, making installation a very simple and easy process. It does not require professional installation or a paid service. All you need to do is choose where you would like to install the lettering and follow the simple installation instructions above. Most vinyl lettering can be installed from a single sheet of transfer paper with the letters already correctly spaced, saving you time from having to manually space out the design on your vehicle.

Does my vehicle lettering have a backing? How do I remove it?

All lettering comes with a protective backing (or back liner). This helps protect the adhesive side of the vinyl material from sticking to other surfaces or sticking to itself. We recommend waiting to remove the backing from your lettering until you have chosen the desired location and have taped the top of the lettering to the location with masking tape. To remove the backing, simply peel it away from the lettering and transfer tape, starting at one of the top corners and working your way towards the bottom. If lettering begins to stick to the backing, stop removing it and press down on the lettering that is beginning to be removed, allowing it to stick better to the transfer tape.

What is pre-mask? What is transfer paper or tape?

Pre-mask, transfer paper, and transfer tape all refer to the same thing, which is a sheet of transparent paper with a single, low-adhesive side. Once your vehicle lettering is cut to shape, it is properly spaced out. The non-adhesive side of the vinyl is then placed onto the adhesive side of the pre-mask. This allows the lettering to be installed all at once instead of having to apply each letter individually. Because of the low adhesive on the pre-mask, it is able to apply the lettering to the intended surface and then be removed without removing the lettering from its new surface.

What do I need to install it?

We recommend using masking tape and a squeegee (or other flat surface) to help with the installation of your vehicle lettering. Use the masking tape in the beginning of the installation to help you maintain the exact position of where you would like your lettering to be installed. Use the squeegee throughout installation to ensure that your lettering will be installed with no creases, bumps, or bubbles. If bubbles appear under your lettering during or after installation you can use the squeegee to effectively remove them. Other helpful items to have during installation include measuring tape (to ensure accurate placement), a level (to help make sure the lettering will be installed straight and not crooked), and a damp rag (to clean the surface prior to installation).

Do you provide any tools for application?

By default, a squeegee will be included with your order for a small charge. You can remove the squeegee from your order if you would like. However, we highly recommend using a squeegee to ensure proper installation. Currently, we do not offer the masking tape recommended for installation, but you should be able to find masking tape at any general or hardware store.

Do installation instructions come with my order?

Yes. Installation instructions for your vehicle lettering will be printed on the pack slip of your order, which will be included in the package you receive your vinyl lettering in. You may also refer back to this page for installation instructions.

What is the best way to clean the surface of my vehicle?

Prior to installation we recommend thoroughly cleaning the area of your vehicle where you would like to have the lettering applied. This can be done with either mild soap or glass cleaner, water, and a non-abrasive rag. Be sure to remove all dust, dirt, bird droppings, insect remains, etc. from the area. Before applying the lettering, allow the area to completely dry. Applying vehicle lettering to a surface that is not dry may result in the lettering to lose its adhesive properties or not adhere properly.

Will hot or cold temperatures affect the installation or lifespan of the vinyl lettering?

Yes. We recommend installing your vehicle lettering in a temperature between 60 – 90 F. If you install your lettering in a temperature higher than this range the lettering may pre-adhere and act more aggressively. This can make installation difficult and may result in your lettering becoming stretchy. If your vehicle is in an environment above or below this temperature range we recommend moving the vehicle indoors (such as a garage) and allowing it to reach an appropriate temperature before beginning installation. Also, we recommend keeping your vehicle in an environment with a temperature above 60 F for the first 12 hours following installation to ensure proper adhesion to your vehicle. Once your lettering has been successfully installed to your vehicle, its quality and lifespan will not be affected by temperature, as long as it is kept within the range of -40 – 225 F. We also do not recommend removing your vehicle lettering in temperatures below 40F

What should I do if there are bubbles underneath the lettering when I apply it?

The first step we recommend taking to remove air bubbles from your lettering is to use a squeegee or soft plastic edge to squeeze the air bubbles out, moving from the center of the letter outward. You can also try lifting the lettering past the point of the bubble and reapplying. If an air bubble is too large and is unable to be removed using a squeegee, you may use a pin or needle to poke a hole in the center of the bubble, allowing the air to escape. However, use extreme caution in doing so to avoid the possibility of creating tears, wrinkles, or creases in your lettering.

Can I wash my vehicle immediately after applying lettering or decals?

We recommend waiting at least 24 hours after applying your lettering before washing your car or truck. This allows the lettering to adhere to the surface of your vehicle properly and create the bond that will keep it sticking to your vehicle over the next several years.

How do I best care for and maintain my vinyl car and truck lettering?

The best way to care for and maintain your vehicle lettering is to regularly wash the lettering with a damp, non-abrasive rag. This will clear it of dirt, dust, and grime, giving it a clean appearance as well as helping it maintain its adhesive properties. The quicker your vehicle gets dirty, the more frequent we recommend cleaning your vinyl lettering. Avoid using strong cleaners and chemicals or scrubbing vigorously when cleaning, as this may damage your lettering and cause it to begin to peel.

Will windshield wipers ruin the lettering?

Generally speaking, your windshield wipers will not damage or ruin your vehicle lettering. However, if you have lettering applied in an area that will be run over by windshield wipers we recommend paying close attention for tears or peeling on the lettering. Areas that are torn or are peeling may get caught by the windshield wiper, causing the tear or peeling to become worse.

Can this lettering go through a car wash?

We recommend avoiding high-power car washes and power washers on areas where vehicle lettering is applied. However, there are many drive-through and manual car washes that will be perfectly fine for your lettering. It just depends on the intensity of the wash. We recommend carefully inspecting your lettering after a wash to determine if it is having a negative effect on your lettering.

What are the main things that will damage my car and truck lettering?

The main causes of damage to vehicle lettering include high-power car washes, power washers, improper cleaning (using strong cleaners or scrubbing vigorously), improper installation, and windshield scrapers. Avoid these in order to have your vehicle lettering last as long as possible.

Will the color fade over time?

This lettering is made from UV resistant vinyl material designed to maintain its vibrant, full color in the outdoors for up to ten years. One factor that helps the lettering maintain its color for this long is because no printing or ink is used. The lettering is directly cut from a solid-colored sheet of 2-mil vinyl that is both weatherproof and waterproof.

How do I remove the lettering? What if it has been applied for a long period of time? Will it damage my vehicle’s paint or window?

Due to the strong, adhesive nature of vehicle lettering, it can require some effort and time to fully remove from your vehicle. This may especially be the case if your lettering has been on your vehicle for several years or has been exposed to harsh elements. Before starting, we recommend gathering together an adhesive remover, heat source (such as a blow dryer), paper towels, and a razor blade. We also recommend removing vehicle lettering in temperatures about 40 F in order to avoid brittle lettering and breaking during removal. To begin the removal process, begin by spraying the lettering with the adhesive remover and allow some time for it to soak. Then attempt to peel away the lettering from the surface using your fingernail. If you are unable to peel the lettering using your fingernail, you may use a sharp object, such as a razor blade, to assist you. However, use caution doing this so that you do not damage the surface of the vehicle. If you are still having difficulty, you may use the blow dryer or other heat source on the lettering to heat it up. This will loosen the adhesive and make it easier to remove the lettering. Please note that using a heat source is not necessary for lettering that is on windows or glass (as long as the temperature is above 60 degrees fahrenheit). Once you are able to start peeling up edges of the lettering, continue to slowly peel away the lettering until it is entirely removed from the surface. Adhesive residue may be left on the surface of your vehicle after removal. Use adhesive remover or glass cleaner that will not damage the paint to remove the residue.

Will the color of my vehicle be different underneath the lettering after I remove it?

The lettering itself will not damage or alter the color of your vehicle’s paint while applied. If any discoloration occurs, it will be due to the paint around the lettering becoming faded from the sun and elements while the paint under the lettering is kept protected. However, this is a rare occurrence due to most paint on cars and trucks being fade and UV resistant. If you are concerned about this happening to your vehicle we recommend removing your lettering and installing new lettering in a different location on your vehicle every several years.
